Stay and Play

We are delighted to be able to offer Stay and Play sessions at OVS. Both sessions are free of charge – just fill out the contact form so we can send you more information.

For younger children we hold a Toddler Café each Friday from 10 – 11am. Come and relax with other parents and let us prepare the toys and clear up afterwards!

For children aged 2-3 we offer wonderful woodland storytelling and free play in our Gruffalo Woods each Thursday, from 9 – 10am.

Curriculum

The children enjoy a broad and balanced curriculum that follows the Early Years Framework, however also includes additional, dedicated, timetabled sessions of Woodland Learning Activities, French, Gardening, Music and Performing Arts, as well as Games sessions. In Games sessions children begin learning the basics for sports they will play competitively, such as Hockey, Netball, Football, Tag Rugby, Cricket and Rounders.

Extra Curricular

Children enjoy the opportunities offered through our termly extra-curricular programme. Nursery and Reception children enjoy a variety of clubs before school, at break times and after school.

Clubs change regularly and have included: Dance, Soccerstars, Gardening & Bushcraft, Karate, Junior Sports, Tennis, , Mini-Tag Rugby, Drama, as well as Musical Theatre, Pet Club, Yoga Bugs, Chess, Ukulele, Homework Club and singing in House Choirs.

The OVS Nursery Class is open to children in the autumn term after their 3rd birthday. It is the ideal setting when your child is ready for more than day care can offer and is very much part of the Old Vicarage School family.

Our Nursery provides a solid foundation for future learning and a seamless transition to Reception and onwards to Year 6.

At OVS we start from a position of love. Our team of carefully selected, dedicated staff will understand, support and guide your child to become the best they can be, both socially and academically. Nursery learning supports all 7 areas of the Foundation Stage framework and observation records are created in Tapestry to evidence milestones. As a parent, or grandparent, you have access to your child’s record remotely and can also add photographs and events outside of school to share. It creates a wonderful memory trove of a child’s educational journey.
